Track 20: Dermatologic Pharmacology and Drug Development

Dermatologic Pharmacology and Drug Development

Dermatologic pharmacology and drug development represent a dynamic and rapidly evolving domain dedicated to understanding the pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, and therapeutic potential of agents used in skin disease management. As the skin serves as both a target and a barrier for treatment, this field plays a pivotal role in advancing effective, safe, and patient-centered therapeutic options for a broad spectrum of dermatologic disorders.

Recent progress in molecular biology, immunology, and genomics has revolutionized the understanding of disease mechanisms, paving the way for targeted therapies and precision dermatology. Biologics, small-molecule inhibitors, and immunomodulatory agents have transformed the management of chronic inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and hidradenitis suppurativa. Meanwhile, advances in topical and transdermal drug delivery systems—including nanoparticles, liposomes, and microneedle technologies—are overcoming traditional challenges related to skin permeability and systemic absorption.

Drug development in dermatology increasingly integrates computational modelingin vitro skin models, and artificial intelligence–driven analytics to enhance drug discovery, optimize formulation design, and predict treatment outcomes. Regulatory considerations, clinical trial methodologies, and pharmacovigilance remain essential components ensuring the efficacy, safety, and ethical advancement of new dermatologic therapies.

The session on Dermatologic Pharmacology and Drug Development will unite researchers, clinicians, and pharmaceutical experts to discuss emerging drug classes, translational research, and the evolving therapeutic landscape. Participants will gain insights into the latest innovations shaping modern dermatologic pharmacotherapy, from bench to bedside, with an emphasis on individualized care, efficacy optimization, and long-term patient safety.
